ACADEMIC YEAR IN AUSTRALIA

Australian universities follow two semester system. First from February to June and second from July to November. While many follow and few vary, courses starts in either February or July.

Some university has tri-semester which may start in November while few specialized programs can offered in multiple intakes.

Short vacation break during July & August and Longer vacation break from December to February.

Australian universities intake students in two seasons.

  • July

Most of the universities intake students during February and July. Few on November and some specialized courses offers multiple intake.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
IELTS score of 6.0 or above for Undergraduate degrees and 6.5 or above for postgraduate degrees is required. TOEFL is also accepted.

COST OF STUDYING IN AUSTRALIA

When comparing with USA & UK, Australia offers value for your money, with living expenses (such as private rent) and tuition costs. You can earn by working part-time up to 40 hours every two weeks while you study.


To receive a student visa, you will have to prove that you have enough money to pay for living expenses, education costs and travel for the entire duration of your course. Visa conditions prohibit you from paying all your expenses from part-time jobs.

Insurance and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is mandate for all students while your student visa is valid. You will also be responsible for your own accident and property insurance.

We always recommend to get travel insurance before leaving India to cover lost baggage, cancellation of plane tickets and repatriation.

Average tuition fees in Australia ranges from approx. $25,000 – $40,000

PART-TIME WORK
Student visas allow you to work for up to 40 hours every two weeks during semester and unrestricted hours during any scheduled course break, but before you undertake any paid work you need to make sure your visa allows you to work.

AFTER STUDY WORK

After degree, you may be eligible for the Post-Study Work stream of the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa. This may enable you to stay in Australia following your studies to gain practical experience working in your field.

Australia is comparatively safe and has a low crime rate. In most places, streets are clean, open and well-lit at night. The incidence of robbery and assault in Australia is relatively low, and Australia has strict anti-gun and anti-drug laws. Frequently Asked Questions

Education pattern in Australia is similar to India like 12 years of school education and 3 years of study to earn bachelor’s degree. According to NOOSR assessment guidelines for institutions in India, students are not required to take an entrance test for entry to any Australian Institutions.  

Some University might ask for GMAT for their management program. 

IELTS is mandate for students and required primarily for Student Visa Application. 

Most of the student visa are allocated with work rights. You can work uptown 40 hours per fortnight while your course is in session. To start working in Australia, your course need to be commenced. 

If your family accompany you then they can also work for 40 hours per fortnight. However, dependents of students who are studying Masters or Doctorate level are entitled to work unlimited hours and they can commence with your course in Australia.

You can get work in retail, hospitality and administration and expect to earn A$ 6 to 15 an hour and you can earn more if you work on weekend or public holidays. 

Taking tuition for younger students in your field is a good way to earn upto A$40 per hour. 

However, it is advisable to budget for sufficient money to look after your tuition fee and living cost. Make your part-time work for the experience and treat the money as additional pocket money. 

NOTE: If you or your dependent work in excess of these restrictions your visas may be subject to cancellation. 

There are various scholarship programs available throughout the year. Scholarships offered differ depending on the university.

Australian Universities provide wide range of scholarships to International meritorious students which help them to fund their studies. Scholarships are totally on the basis of the student’s academics. Scholarships for coursework program mostly covers part of the tuition fees however, research programs provides funding up to 100% for tuition fee and good amount of money to cover living expenses.

Apart from the university and college scholarships, Government scholarships are also available for international student. The criteria of the Government scholarship is quite competitive as compare to the university scholarships. As the numbers of applications received are very high, it is advisable to apply quite in advance to get timely response. The eligibility to apply for any scholarship may vary in terms of various factors like age, gender, institution, courses, location and academic excellence.

 

As the Australian Government recognizes Indian Universities, credit transfers are possible. However for this the students are required to submit their course syllabus to the institution and it can take minimum of 6 months for credits to be granted.
